Water pipe replacement work to begin in Locust, Main and Mill streets and Belmont Avenue intersection
Work on a continuing underground water pipe improvement project will continue Monday morning, May 20 with restoration of trench work in the intersection of Mil, Locust and Main streets and Belmont Avenue.
Jaimye Bartak, spokesperson for the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission, said the work will start at about 7 a.m. and run to 4 p.m. for about four days.
Traffic tie ups may be expected due to the nature of the work. Construction will move around the intersection as necessary meaning traffic patterns will change repeatedly.
The project is part of the city’s $3.9 million Water Infrastructure Improvements Project. Last year the commission replaced 460 feet of 12 and 16-inch water mains, some of which was over 110 years old.
