Sinkhole situation worsens as officials fear sewage discharge
Shifting sediment has nearly blocked the collapsed sewer interceptor at a sinkhole in Fraser, prompting a call from Macomb County Public Works officials for more than a half-million county residents and tens of thousands of businesses to restrict water usage to prevent a sewage discharge into the Clinton River.
This is the biggest concern officials have faced since the sinkhole was discovered on Dec. 24 -- a problem that temporarily displaced residents in 23 houses -- with three of the homes being condemned.
The 11-foot wide interceptor pipe along 15 Mile Road near Eberlein Drive had a very small area of flow, but now there's very little flow because of silt, Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller told the Free Press today.
