Repairs in progress after sewer main break spilled millions of gallons of raw sewage into street of N.J. town

Crews are continuing to clean up and repair a sewer main break Friday, five days after millions of gallons of waste water flooded the streets of Ventnor.

With three of the six locations near the Wellington Avenue break still showing elevated levels of bacteria, the shellfish harvesting ban in the Lakes Bay area put into place by the state Department of Environmental Protection remains in place, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority said.

Meanwhile, final prep work is being done Friday before a temporary bypass connection can be installed and activated in the area of the leak beginning at around midnight Saturday, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority said.
