Ruidoso to Fast Track Pipeline with HDPE Pipe
Ruidoso will fast track a plan to pump Carrizo Creek raw water into storage at Grindstone Reservoir, a project called a "high priority" by Village Manager Debi Lee.
"The beauty of this project is it will allow us to divert water from Carrizo Creek during the monsoon season when we have the high flows on the Rio Ruidoso that we know are going to be black water conditions," Randall Camp, Ruidoso's utilities director, told village councilors Tuesday during a special meeting.
The "black water conditions" would be created from ash- and silt-filled monsoonal flows along the Rio Ruidoso. Last year's Little Bear Fire severely damaged the river's watershed at the higher elevations and resulted in some mud, ash and debris flows from the fire's burn scar. Diverting Rio Ruidoso water into Grindstone Reservoir has been limited because of the conditions.
