Cleveland city van swallowed by East Side sinkhole
CLEVELAND, Ohio - A sinkhole swallowed a Cleveland water department van Thursday afternoon on the city's East Side, according to city officials.
The van fell through the ground at 494 East 127th Street near Cornado Avenue just after 2:30 p.m., the Cleveland Division of Water said in a news release.
The water department employee was not in the van when the sinkhole appeared and engulfedthe van, the news release said.
The department was called about 1 p.m. to the area after a resident noticed a water leak. An investigator went to the scene about 2 p.m. to look for the leak, water department spokesman John Goersmyer said.
